Coach Matt Lawrence

Matt is the newest addition to the Newmarket Fencing Club coaching staff. Matt is the product of the club under the tutelage of Head Coach Michael McDonnell and has been fencing for almost 10 years.  

Matt's passion for the sport is palpable! When he is not fencing or coaching at the club he is running the educational charity O.E.I. Onsite Education Inc. where his programme the Knights in the Classroom is sponsored by the Ontario Fencing Association to help grow the sport. He brings fencing to schools, camps, community groups and seniors facilities across Ontario and has worked with over 2000 participants during his 5 years as a fencing coach. 

Matt, along with his wife, also created a fencing card game called
En Garde: Game of Fencing! with versions for epee, foil and saber. They created it so fencers of all skill and experience levels can train together. You can learn more by visiting: www.engardegameoffencing.com 

In 2023 Matt officially received his status as a certified fencing coach.
